1. Beijing - Location and Seasonal Climate
Beijing is situated 40° north latitude and 116° east longitude.
The climate is temperate:
Spring with flowers in full bloom, brimming over vigorously
Summer means monsoons which bring ample rainfall (hot season)
Autumn is the best season with such a clear sky and lush greeen woods and plants
Winter is cold and dry and so enjoyable ; a bit of snow (landscape typical of Northern China)

2. Beijing - Population and Language
Beijing has a resident (permanent) population of more than 10 million people, the majority of whom are of Han descent,
as well as a floating population of temporary residents which number about 3 million.
The city is divided into 11 districts and 7 counties.
The inner city still maintains the structural pattern of the 14th century.
The main langage spoken is Mandarin.

3. Beijing - Fascinating History
Beijing has been used as a capital of three dynasties:
Yuan - In the 13th Century, Mongols under Genghis Khan occupied Beijing. His successor, Kublai Khan, established
the Yuan dynasty and made Beijing the capital in 1272. A description that has earned much acclaim can be found
in the travelogue of Marco Polo. Religions beliefs began to diversify (Buddhism and Taoism).
Ming Dynasty from 1368 to 1644:
After the third emperor Zhu Li made Beijing the capital, he decided to build the famous Forbiden City.
Qing Dynasty from 1644 to 1911:
This dynasty had its heyday during the reign of emperor Kang Xi; elegant and beautiful imperial gardens still represent
the glory of this period of Beijing history.
In 1912, the last emperor Pu Yi stepped down at the Forbidden City, ending thousands of years of feudal rule.
Beijing became the capital of the new China on October the 1st, 1949 when the People's Republic of China was founded
by Chairman Mao Zedong on the Tian'anmen Rostrum..
